5 Top Tips For Renovating Your Bathroom

Need a makeover that the whole family can enjoy? Whether you're a total novice at bathroom renovation or a professional plumber who's been involved with renovations your whole career - here are some top tips to give your bathroom the best makeover.

1. Before you start

It's really important to understand what is most important to you from your new bathroom? Do you want a shower over the bath instead of a bath? Would it be more practical if the toilet was separate from the main room? What size do you want your sink vanity units to be? When planning out how big each unit should be, always allow for cupboard space as well as drawers and shelves that will be used for storing towels, shampoos etc.

2. Plan it out

Once you've found the perfect bathroom suite, which will fit in with your needs and makes sense for your home, make sure to measure the area thoroughly. When sketching out what you want to be done, be as detailed as possible about how big each unit should be and where switches will be placed etc. Planning before you start means there is less chance of mistakes being made, and it's always better to have a plan before making irreversible changes, i.e. drilling holes through the wall for new sockets or light fittings that cannot be moved without causing damage to plasterboard or brickwork etc.

3. Think about all features that are important to you

Does your bathroom need more storage? If so, think about adding wall cabinets or bathroom furniture that will open up the room and give you more storage space for towels, linen etc. If your bathroom isn't particularly large, think about using smart space savers like over-the-toilet cabinets. These can be used beneath the sink vanity units to store toilet essentials without taking up too much room in other places.

4. Light, bright and airy

Think about how your bathroom will look decorating wise before you start getting quotes for renovation work by tradesmen. The last thing you want is walls covered with tiles, which makes the room seem smaller than it really is or full of heavy drapes that block light coming into the room through windows or skylights (if it's an en suite).

5. Think carefully before setting a budget and stick to it

It's easy to go crazy buying new bathroom furniture, fittings and accessories that you didn't think about when sketching out the design of your dream bathroom. Always plan ahead and set yourself a realistic budget beforehand, so you know exactly how much you can spend on each area of the renovation process without going over what you originally planned. Setting a budget will also help with getting quotes from contractors as they won't cost jobs beyond this pre-planned limit. You can search online for ‘plumbing services near me’ if need be. So as long as you stick to your budget, it doesn't matter if one quote costs more than another as you'll only be paying for the work done rather than wasting money by hiring someone who charges too much for the job.

There you go!

If you follow these tips for renovating your bathroom, there is no reason why it can't be one of the best experiences of your life!
