6 Ways to Give Your Living/Sitting Room A Refresh

A lot of us spend a great deal of time at home and our homes should always feel like our own space to retreat and relax. Home decor helps a lot with this as it allows us to turn our houses into homes and create a space that reflects our personalities that works for everyone in the home. Sometimes though, decor can start to feel dated and in desperate need of a refresh as the years go by. Today I want to share with you some of my own tips for ways to give one of the main rooms in the house, the sitting/ living room, a nice refresh!

1. Add mirrors
This has to be one of the easiest ways to give a room a quick and inexpensive refresh. Mirrors can help fill large wall spaces and they also help bounce around natural light and so they are a great way to make a room feel bigger than it actually is.

2. Move the furniture around
I was always amazed as a child just how much difference it made to the room when my Mum used to change the furniture around in it. I remember always thinking that it felt like a brand new room afterwards and that the room felt instantly refreshed! And that's something I've carried into adulthood because it's true, it really can make such a difference just changing a few pieces of larger furniture around. Take a look at your own space, could you move the sofa or the coffee table or the TV stand or maybe all of it around to make the space that you have perhaps work better and help give the room a refresh?

3. Refresh/replace your furniture

Most of use our living rooms daily, even multiple times a day, so it's okay to set aside some money to replace and refresh furniture that you've had for a while and that has become worn, broken or just really dated. Replacing old armchairs and sofas can make a huge difference to the room. As the sofa is such a big part of the living room make sure to research what you would like to replace your sofa or armchairs with in advance. Choose the colour and the style you would like and think about how it would fit with the other furniture in your room. And remember that you don't just have to opt for a standard sofa or armchair, mobility experts Fenetic Wellbeing have a great range of different recliner chairs and even massage chairs in a range of different styles to suit different decor tastes!

4. Declutter and spring clean
Decluttering and deep cleaning is the easiest way to help make any room in your home feel refreshed. Clutter builds up naturally even for the tidiest of people and it can be both physically and mentally really beneficial to declutter and clear out anything that you may no longer love or need.

5. Don't forget about the little touches
The small accessories can make a big difference, although it's important not to go overboard with adding too many things into one space as not to make it feel overcrowded. Things like a few candles, or wax melts, matching cushions for your sofas, a few of your favourite ornaments and a vase of flowers (real or artificial) will help make your room feel cosy and help inject a little of your personality into the room too.

6. Add plants
Having plants in the home is proven to benefit us mentally so why not bring the outdoors inside with the use of plants. Not only do they help with our mental wellbeing but they inject colour into a room and are often the perfect addition when you get the feeling that something is missing from an area of your home.

I hope these tips have been helpful and best of luck with your living room refresh!
