Fun and simple ways to enjoy spending time together as a family

As a family, we love spending quality time together. Whether it’s taking the boys to a local park or snuggling up on the sofa and watching a film; nothing beats spending time with your loved ones. The summer holidays are well and truly over and dare I say it, but Christmas is only round the corner. Whilst the little ones are enjoying their time off school, it can mean numerous days out to keep them occupied, which can mount up in cost.
Although the summer holidays are over, we have October half term only a matter of weeks away and the Christmas countdown will begin before we know it. The final months of the year are where we want to make a conscious effort to save money, as well as spending family time together. As the weather turns colder and more miserable weather arrives, we often find ourselves resorting to indoor activities such as bowling or a trip to the cinema; which as we can all appreciate, doesn’t always come cheaply.
With the winter weather now approaching, I wanted to share with you some fun and simple ways you can enjoy spending time together with your loved ones, in the comfort of your own home.

Cost-effective craft for the whole family
Most children love getting messy and hands-on and there’s no better way to do this than craft activities. Whether it’s making origami animals or making bunting to decorate the children’s bedrooms; craft is a fun and cheap way to pass the time whilst spending time together. It doesn’t matter whether you and your family have an artistic flair or not, there are many craft ideas online right through from fun and simple to more complex designs.
Create your own movie night
A trip to the cinema can often become an expensive day out, especially if you decide to buy drinks and snacks there. For a cheaper and cosier option, why not create your own cinema at home? Let the little ones pick a film, turn the lights off and cuddle up on the sofa. Another great way to bring the cinema experience to your home is by making a pick n mix stall. You can buy popcorn, a mixture of sweets, plastic scoops and bags and allow the little ones to fill them before the film starts.
Bake up a tasty treat in the kitchen
Baking is a great activity to enjoy as a family. Whether rustling up some simple Rice Krispie cakes or a family-favourite Victoria sponge to enjoy after your evening meal; it’s sure to keep the little ones entertained. Allowing the children to be involved during the weighing of ingredients will also familiarise them with the kitchen and equipment within it, whilst adding a maths element as well; meaning baking really is the perfect family activity.
These are just a few fun and simple ways to enjoy spending time as a family, without having to worry about a mounting cost. I’d love to hear if you have any suggestions like the ones I’ve mentioned.

Thank you for reading.
