The Me and Mine Family Portrait Project - April 2017

I love this top picture. It's become one of my favourites. I feel like it sums us up as a family. Well most of the time anyway - family life's not always so smiley. Some days are mega hard and challenging and draining and all of those other things. But a lot of the time, these happy, crazy, fun smiles sum us all up just perfectly.

I love that with these guys it really doesn't matter who walks past or drives by and sees us posing in front of a tripod with a DSLR stuck to the top, in the centre of a field full of yellow on a slightly chilly day (despite the lack of coats). It doesn't matter if they watch us run back and forth, taking attempt after attempt because one of us had our eyes closed, wasn't in the shot, or the photo was too dark. I don't worry about how mad we look running after the two smallest members of the family who've teamed up and done a runner just as the self-timer goes off.

Because these favourite people of mine, they make me feel happy. And with them, I feel stronger and more confident. I don't worry as much about things like insecurities. They are my security, my happiness, and when I'm with them, all four of them, it feels like we're inside of our own little bubble.

April seems to have gone by so fast. But I'm becoming a bit of a broken record I think. As a parent, life does seem that much more quicker. There's not just yourself and the person you love to focus on anymore, there are little people who rely on you completely. Meeting their everyday needs and guiding them in the right direction daily is a big old responsibility and then the day jobs and the house jobs fit on it between that. I guess that it would be silly to ever assume that the months of the year at this stage of life would ever seem anything less than super-fast.

Our little, but eldest boy, Ethan, turned four on the 17th and I can't believe how grown up he seems nowadays. It's always a little strange when I say out loud or tell myself that I now have a four year old that will start full time at school this September too. But I also think that these past four years have been the best. I've grown so much in so many ways and I've become so much more content and happier. Having our boys has bought so much character and fun to our lives.

April's been a fun month. It's been the start of being able to get outdoors more and the start of having more fun family days together and I think May will be more of the same. We're just keeping our fingers crossed for more sunshine here in the UK.

Come on British Summer time, show us some sun rays!

Your littlest is really growing up and catching up with his brother they look like twins. 15. I think your family are slightly more patient than mine when it comes to rape field photos! Also having farmers in the family means my husband is always very particular about how and were we are allowed to stand in the field! :-)
