Baby #2: What’s my gender preference?

It’s just four weeks now until I am able to find out what gender my second child will be!

Lots of people have asked me, like they did with Ethan, whether or not I will be finding out the baby’s sex. And like with Ethan – my answer is ‘Of course!’ (that is, If I can of course). My Husband and I are both (luckily) in complete agreement with this. We both have somewhat of a lack of patience when it comes to something as exciting as this is and for so us, we’d just prefer to know. Plus, then we can go ahead and stop calling the baby ‘baby’ or ‘it’ and refer to them as ‘he’ or ‘she’. And then there’s all the fun of being able to buy stuff for the new baby in either blue or pink. ;)  I also like having time to get used to whether we’ll be having a little boy or girl join the family. So for us it’s a definite if we can find out, then we absolutely will!
So what’s our preference? Boy or girl?
Honestly speaking, both my Husband and I this time around have no preference whatsoever. And here’s why: We always hoped to have a little boy – and we have one! We would be happy with another little boy as I quite like the idea of having boys and giving Ethan a little brother who is close to him in age. But we’d be happy with a girl too because then we have one of each and I never have to wonder what it would have been like to have a girl. I get to buy new things such as clothes (oh and isn’t everything for little girls just so pretty?!). I also get to buy her things like Barbie’s and dolls and do things with her that I did as a little girl. Plus we have narrowed a girls name down to just the once choice. With boys names - we have two current favourites!
So quite honestly, we’re happy either way. If I’m totally and utterly honest, I just want to see a healthy little baby in my womb when we go for that next scan. I want to be told that everything looks perfect and that baby is doing great. It may sound cliché but that really is our only wish.

Did you/do you have a preference?

  1. Lovely post - something I've been asked about constantly! With Layla neither of us minded and I'm exactly the same this time round! Having a boy would be lovely as we would have 'one of each' so to speak but then again having a girl would be lovely for Layla to have that sister bond (something I never had!) xx

  2. No preference but like you did find out! After 2 miscarriages and an awful pregnancy I needed something positive to attach to and this definitely made it feel more real. Congratulations whatever the outcome x

  3. I'm like you. Inpatient! I need to find out the gender. I feel uncomfortable not knowing what I'm going to have and then start the panic of buying everything in blue or pink once the baby is delivered. Plus it saves more money having to buy the one colour in the first place.
On Matthew we found out what we are going to have and we did this time round again. But just like with Matthew we haven't told everyone. Only close family members and one or two close friends.

  4. We are not finding out what we are having, but I don't have a preference either. I have a girl and 2 boys, so for my daughter it would be nice to have another girl - but in all honesty, whichever gender, it will fit in to our family unit just fine. Like you, I just want to see a happy, healthy baby at my next scan!

  5. I had two girls and when I fell pregnant with baby number three everyone assumed we wanted a boy and I was the same I had no preference. I had a little boy who I adore though. Good luck for your scan and fingers crossed you can find out x

  6. I was happy either way both times but the fact we already had a gil meant having another girl would be easier, no clothes to buy etc but when we had a boy that was great too :) x

  7. Ohhh so exciting. I do hope you'll be sharing the gender when you find out?!

When/if we have another I would be happy either way, like you, just a happy healthy baby is the most important thing. :)

  8. Such exciting times ahead when you get to find out the gender. I couldn't wait to find out and I loved our private scan. It's nice that you don't have a preference and would be happy with either, as you said, a healthy baby is the most important thing. I'd be lying if I wasn't hoping for a girl next time round, it'd be lovely to have one each and the different experiences of both genders but having said that I like the thought of having a brother for TL too :) x

  10. Finding out the gender is so fun! We have a boy too and I would love to have a daughter this time so I can do all the fun girl things and get her dolls and pink clothes and all that .... but a boy would be nice too, a brother for our little mister. But yes, like you I am praying for a healthy baby, boy or girl. I'm so excited to find out! We find out about the same time you do! Fun! :)

  11. We never found out with our first and for us that is what we wanted and enjoyed but I can totally see why people find out. I was jealous of my friend who was 5 months behind us in pregnancy finding out the sex of our child before we did lol!
I used to think that if I had a second I would always want the opposite of the child I already had. Now I am not sure. I have a girl and a boy would be amazing but so would a little sister for Molly!! exciting times

  12. We didn't find out as we have a girl and, being a farmer, my husband would like a boy. I didn't want him being disappointed for the last 20wks ha ha. My theory is when it's here and if it is a girl, I'll be cooing over the baby rather than being bothered about his face ha ha x

  13. My husband would love to have a boy and I would love to have a girl - but either way, the most important thing is that the baby is healthy and I can totally relate to your wish for the next scan. I'm also a little excited and nervous..

    All the best :)

  14. We've never had a preference and never found out for any of our three - I liked the surprise element and I was never going to be disappointed. It's amazing the number of times we were asked if we were hoping for a boy when we were expecting Pip - but wanting a particular variety of child never even featured in the list of reasons for a third child!

  15. I am with you on finding out! My husband and I have no patience at all and simply have to know! We have two boys and I was thrilled to be having another boy. However, if we ever have number three I know I would be desperate for a girl! xx

  16. I found out with all three of mine, however with the last one I did kinda want a surprise, but in the end we found out as my daughter was adamant she was having a sister, turns out she had a brother! For a few weeks after finding out she was really disappointed so I'm glad we found out so she got used to the idea before he came rather than her being disappointed and not bonding with him when he arrived.

I am totally with you on not having a preference either! I was just more than happy to be holding our new baby in my arms!
