Water usage facts that might just make you turn off that tap!

This post and these very interesting facts are in association with happier-homes.co.uk. Have a read through some of these water usage facts, that may just make you question your very own water usage.. I know they have made me question mine!

  • Less than 0.5% of the world's total water is freshwater available for humans. Of the rest, 97% is salt water, and the other 2.5% is frozen in glaciers. Essentially, if the entire world’s water was in a bucket, then the freshwater available for people would only amount to a teaspoon full. Think about that when you leave the water running!
  • If the entire adult population of England and Wales remembered to turn off the tap when they were brushing their teeth, we could save 180 mega litres a day - enough to supply nearly 500,000 homes and fill 180 Olympic swimming pools! (One Olympic sized pool is 1 million litres / 1Mll..
  • There is the same amount of water on Earth as there was when Earth was formed!
  • Whether you believe it or not, you could use less water with a dishwasher than washing dishes by hand!
  • Did you know that a mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic maths, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
I know that I for one can be guilty of taking water for granted, but it really is a complete and utter luxury to some people. And I think we could all do with being more water savvy. Being a little more savvier with water can also help to save money on our bills, which is something we are all keen to do, especially so with the cost of living rising what can seem nearly every single day!

Why not have a go at this water saving calculator or have a look at these interesting water facts if water awareness and water saving is something you are keen to explore further.
