Hospital Care During Childbirth: My Experience

I knew from the moment that we had our labour ward tour at the hospital that I would feel comfortable giving birth to Ethan there. Looking back, I'm so pleased that we had and accepted the opportunity to have a tour of the ward a few weeks before Ethan was due. It really put my mind (and Adams mind) at ease. The volunteer showing us around went through all the different types of birthing rooms, all the facilities that we're available and even answered our silly questions about things like parking. And it's the little things like parking etc that new parents just don't want to have to worry about!

When the day came that I went into labour, the staff and midwives were all brilliant. I felt that their support was there the whole time I was in labour, and even when the midwives changed over, it was as if the new midwife had been with us from the very beginning. Having a baby is one of the biggest things we can do! What our bodies are able to do as women is absolutely amazing and in turn it's one of the toughest things we go through. And it's not only physically hard but emotionally too, so receiving the right level of care, like I felt like I did, is just essential.

I will always be grateful to the staff for their amazing level of care and support whilst I had Ethan and I will also be grateful to the hospital for providing such a clean and personal environment for me to give birth in. Personally my experience makes me wonder why there are sometimes so many hospital negligence claims. But I suppose it's because not every single person has the type of experience that I had and when things do go wrong it's nice to know that there are great, professional companies to  lean on like www.hospitalnegligence.co.uk for help and advice.

Where did you give birth? And what was your experience like?

  3. My experience was AWFUL. I had a partial placental abruption from 30 weeks and lost pints of blood. I was in a pretty bad way physically and emotionally, the hospital treated me as an inconvevience from day one, the consultant saw how mistreated I was and practically screamed at one midwife (who I never saw again). I was convinced I would die in their "care", yes really, I was that terrified I send myself text messages of their negligance so that when I died there would be evidence on my phone for my family to use! At one point I discharged myself because I felt it would be better for me to be away from there, I felt it was making me even more ill through stress :( I will never ever ever have another child, it's put me off for life. :(

  5. I had an amazing experience with first one- epidural is an amazing thing! Not that good with second as it was to late for epidural and I had to deliver without painkiller and I wasn't prepared for that ;) Neither was my husband who got lots of scratches after the labour haha But in both cases my midwifes and staff were amazing, couldnt ask for better care and help with everything.

  6. I had a terrible labour resulting in bypassing the birth centre and heading for a forceps delivery with an epidural...I'm a PI lawyer and all I could think about was all the claims I had dealt with for injuries to babies from such labours...not exactly relaxing!! That said we both came out A ok so I can't complain and although I didn't get the homebirth I had originally planned this was with hindsight a good thing as it saved us a mad dash in an ambulance to the hospital!

  7. I had a fairly good experience, I gave birth at 32 weeks and on the six hours I spent in hospital during Labour a midwife was always with me. They explained in depth what to expect as well as a tour around the SCBU. The special care staff were great and provided good support my only problems were emotional support upon arrive home three weeks later with a teeny baby and one not so nice midwife (I saw her once before giving birth and one home visit -- very pushy)

  8. I had my baby in St.Marys Hospital,Paddington,London. The level of care and professionalism was second to none and it's staff like this that keep the NHS going.

  9. I gave birth in the hospital I worked at. If I hadn't been in such hard labor, I would have been laughing. So today I find it humorous. Anyway, I was going through my contractions and huffing and puffing to the sound of cheers outside my room. Seems the staff was watching the fetal monitor! Then my son was finally born and everyone was on cloud 9. The next day when I was taking a sitz bath, the construction team came for a visit and although I was behind the curtain, I was carrying on a conversation with them. The visual is making me giggle right now. So, I guess I would have to say my experience was one for the books!
