Getting Your Home Baby-Ready

From the moment you find out that you’re going to be having a baby, you know that your entire life is going to have to change. Your priorities will entirely shift and your little one’s well being will begin to supersede your own. Now, there are countless changes that you’re going to have to make to yourself and your lifestyle to be the best parent that you can. One area that you’re likely going to need to focus on is your home. The home of an adult without children doesn’t have to be as strictly considered, monitored and supervised as the home of someone living with children. So, where can you start out when it comes to making your home baby-ready? Here are a few suggestions that could help you along the way!

Fix Furniture to the Wall

When you are an adult and there are only adults in your property, you can count that the furniture will be used for its intended purpose. People aren’t suddenly going to see your bookshelf as a climbing frame and start stepping up the shelves. But children do see the world as one big playground and may start trying to use furniture as a play thing. This is why it’s so important that all furniture is fixed to the wall. This can prevent it toppling and resulting in injuries by falling on your little one. There are professionals out there who can help with this if you’re unsure how to do it yourself.

Make Sure the Space is Well Heated

Babies can be more sensitive to heat than adults. You’re going to want to make sure that your baby is at a good temperature throughout the year, including the summer and winter months when it can be harder to regulate the temperature in your property. Make sure that your living space is always a comfortable temperature. When it’s hot outside, this can mean getting air conditioning installed, or investing in fans and cooling towers, to make sure the space isn’t excessively hot. In the winter months, this can mean using reliable hear suppliers like All Seasons Interiors and having good insulation in your home.

Be Careful With Blind Cords

If you have blinds in your home, you should be aware that they are a safety tisk to your little ones. Blinds have cords to open and close them, and if your little one got tangled in them, they could face serious danger. All blind manufacturers recommend that you tie up blind cords out of the way of children. Alternatively, you may simply want to opt for curtains over blinds instead.

Locks

Children will get into anything they possibly can. It’s important that you have child locks on any cupboards that you don’t want your little one to have easy access to. This is particularly important when it comes to cupboards and spaces with potentially dangerous items inside, such as plastic bags (which could cause suffocation), cleaning products (which can contain dangerous chemicals) and more.

Make sure to pay attention to the advice above and your home should be well on its way towards becoming child friendly!
