Guest post: Calories burnt in watersports activities

The following guide is part of Indespension’s Get Out There campaign, a campaign to introduce sports activities in the great outdoors.
Summer is just around the corner and this year, you might want to try different activities to get fit outdoors. Working out at a gym is often tedious and can become boring quickly. We have collected a few watersports alternatives you may not have considered before. All of these activities burn a great amount of calories and are a good way to become fit as well as enjoy time together as a family doing something active if you have considered taking your children outside more this summer.
Have you ever thought of trying Canoeing? Canoeing can be a great way to exercise and is fun for the entire family.  One single canoe can seat a whole family, so two adults and 2-3 children in total.  You can burn up to 250 calories during one hour depending on your activity level.  You can find a tutor to show your family how to use a canoe and canoes can be rented from many places in the UK.

Perhaps you also never thought of trying sailing. Sailing is a fantastic family bonding experience and while it requires some skill, you can get the hang of it quite quickly. Perhaps you should also look into hiring a tutor to show you how to sail. Sailing can be done as a family on a bigger vessel, or a one-person dinghy-sailboat.  Sailing can be physically demanding and therefore burn a fantastic 200 calories an hour.
Another option to try is kayaking. Kayaking can be done on a river or lake and is very easy to pick up. Another great advantage of kayaking is that your children can use their own kayaks once they are older and kayak independently. Kayaking is a great family experience and also keeps you fit.  Since kayaking is quite intense, it can burn up to 300 calories an hour.
