What's your Home Decor Style?

I've always been into home decor. I have a slight OCD with keeping the house tidy, although since becoming a Mum and having significantly less time per day this OCD urge has greatly declined. But the desire to have a lovely home with beautiful things inside of it is something that will always interest me. It makes me happy as a hobby, a hobby that can sometimes be a little on the expensive side, but a great hobby all the same.

When my Husband and I moved in with each other aged 19, our home decor tastes were the exact same.. we loved the 'modern' look. The more contemporary the better. And we still do share that taste in decor, but lately I seem to have really latched on to the whole shabby chic look. You know the one.. the pretty, perhaps sometimes a tad too much floral going on look. I'm also really getting into white.. white everything. The more white the better. Not only does white provide the perfect back drop for photographs, it's clean, fresh, bright and pretty all rolled into one. It also goes with every other colour.. particularly, in my opinion, duck egg blue. But though the Hubby has come around to my recent 'everything white craze' he's not yet convinced on the duck egg blue.

We're still hoping to move.. our chain is now complete so it's just waiting on solicitors etc now so if all does go to plan (fingers crossed) it'll be so great getting to redecorate the new house and purchasing all our new furniture. I'm a fan of places like Ikea and Rodgers of York and will be hoping to pick out some gorgeous white pieces to make the new house a home.

I'd love to know what your home decor style is? And why?

  1. A great post Alex! White is always a good choice as like you said it is fresh and goes with everything and a neutral colour for both boys and girls. It can also work with most styles either modern or vintage/shabby chic. Looking forward to reading your next post :-)

  2. I am very feminine and girly so lots of florals, pastels and candles. I also love cosiness so lots of throw cushions, furry rugs and fleecy throws! I have LOADS of Cath Kidston and visit her shop in town at least twice a week!

  3. I like a minimalist style but still quite funky, my two favourite items are my green cuddle chair and Tiffany style table lamp - eclectic minimalist, if that's a style!

  17. I think mine is 'make do and mend'! There is only 1 room in my house that is completely as I'd like it and the rest are just a botched together mess! It would take too much money to do anything with it and I'd rather spend on living life and adventures! (although of course it often bugs me!)

  18. Mine is gold/brown/beige, and I try to make things where I can. All the pictures/paintings were made by me or friends. However as we only moved into this flat in Dec it isn't anywhere near finished. xx

  21. I'm not sure what my style is.........I like a mix of neutral colours, dark colours, magnolia, bold colours - depends on the room I suppose. My living room is Black, grey and cream. My dining room is magnolia and peach. Kitchen is cream and poppy red with poppy designs on crockery etc.......... My whole house has a different style - but then as my mam says 'my house is to live in, not for show!' lol x

  26. I love blues, greys and purples, not popular with a lot of people because they're cold colours, but it works for me!

  27. I used to be a Habitat addict, then moved onto Ikea as they have a huge range. I love white for walls though, makes rooms look very spacious and drops on the skirting boards don't show up as much :) Big fan of coving too, it's the first thing I check for in a room and if it hasn't got any it's the first thing to be installed.

  28. I have a plum feature wall in the lounge which is quite striking but lovely & the rest of the room is neutral - cream with a brown sofa :). I love flowers - your white lilies are beautiful x

  32. My style would be pretty neutral....lots of creams and whites! Our living room has a feature wall which has a gorgeous burnt orange colour to it and our kitchen is a home made colour....I mixed up a few paint
Colours to create a gorgeous petrol grey colour! I love it! The only room which has a bold colour is our little boys room which is blue! The bluest blue ever! He picked the colour himself! :)

  33. I'd describe my home style as eclectic. I like a lot of traditional features but with a modern twist.

  34. I started as colourful & bright as when we bought our home it was painted in only 4 colours throughout (green, blue, off-white & yellow) so we went a bit mad changing the look & feel as it felt very cold & uninviting. We liked the space. But now I am changing it to more subtle colours. I have lots of photos & ornaments & paintings that all have a strong family link, but the overall look is comfy but a bit mismatched! But it's our home is suits us!

  35. great post I also like the house tidy but dont seem to have enough hours in the day! hope everything goes well with the move

  36. I tend to have 3 neutral walls to a room and one feature wall, I like cosy and comfortable but have vastly cut back on the amount of ornaments and knick knacks I have as with 4 children and 2 cats belting about the house things tend to get knocked over.

This is hard to pin point with me because I go off the house and my mood when I am decorating it and I am constantly redecorating and falling out of love with styles. I love shabby chic and I love neutrals and white with splashes of color. But if the house is old I like the country cottage look and nautical sea themes throughout. If the house is new and modern I will go with a more modern contemporary feel. At the moment my house is a mixture of everything but so many things I already want to change. Never decorate two weeks before giving birth your hormones pick ugly colors and themes and you just have to patience to probably style and design it all so you pick random things. I regret my front living room everyday. I would love to move just to redecorate everything again. lol Love your touches and your home decor posts too. We have similar taste in accessories etc.
