I'm late with this. I'm not usually, but I am today. Although, really only by a few hours. January hasn't really run away with itself, it hasn't been manic either. It's felt much more composed, far more than December did anyway. We've got back on track, found routine and ticked off our to-do lists week by week. And boy has that felt good.
We'd planned a nice trip to the lake at the weekend - it was going to be a quick trip where we'd probably feed the ducks, play in the rather nice playground there and then snap a nice family photo in front of the lake after eating lunch in the pub restaurant there. But plans don't always go to plan when you're a parent and the nice pub lunch turned in to the start of one of those sort of days you just wish you could reset. Both boys in full overdrive - unable to calm down, unable to listen, we barely made it through lunch. Those sort of days as a parent happen a lot, as much as the great, happy days do - you just can't really plan for them that's all.
So we came home to the sound of screaming and kicks to the back of my chair, we even pulled over to refasten our eldest's seat belt which he'd taken off, probably in protest. The rest of the day didn't get much better either but we're working on getting our biggest boy through this somewhat crazy little threenager phase.

And so that's sort of why I'm late posting this and why this photo was taken just an hour ago. But I actually kind of love it, because it's a reflection of my life right now. I've got my three year old who thinks he is a dinosaur most of the time, my one year old who thinks the fact that's he learnt to do proper clapping with his hands extending out makes him awesome (it does) and then Adam and I - me looking quite a bit tired and us with our nearly matching shirts on just like our boys and we're also at home - which sums up January nicely, because it's felt far too cold to go out all that much (we're all very much ready for Spring right now!).
We don't have many plans for February right now, we were originally hoping that work on our new kitchen would be starting around this time of year, but we've come up with potentially a different idea that involves a bit of a longer wait as a lot more saving is required. So we're just going to see where February takes us and hope for a few days of warmer weather. :)

OH bless you hunny, even late (which isn't actually late). Your family photos are beautiful and full of joy, happiness, and true life. Loving the dinosaur and hand clapping is a great milestone indeed. I feel like I am forever catching up at the moment too. Can relate. We only snapped ours last weekend and most the time I am super early hahah Was almost worried we wouldn't get one in time with hubby away. Either way it's a good one early or late to have to recall and remember. I look forward to seeing your photos for another year of your beautiful family. Happy month ahead. #meandmineproject
ReplyDeleteYour boys are adorable Alex and really are mini me's! Sounds like a normal weekend in our house too! x #meandmine
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful family photo. I am looking forward to joining in this year and seeing lots more too. Have a good month #meandmineproject
ReplyDeleteI agree that January just seems alot different to December both good and bad really. Parenting is so tough sometimes isn't it but this photo is really lovely and everyone looks happy which I guess is the most important part to look back on x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo! We also have a threenager acting like a dinosuar or Kion form the Lion Guard most days, it's tiring and funny but just another phase we have to go through! Bring on the Spring weather so we can all get out and about and burn off some energy xx
ReplyDeleteThat photo is brilliant! I love photos that capture the people, not just the faces!
ReplyDeleteI'm new to the Me and Mine Project but I'm very much looking forward to it!
The last minute photos are generally the nicest. I think this photo sums up parenting. X
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful happy photo! I'm not surprised you love it.
ReplyDeleteFamilies are so fun and filled with adventures at every turn. How many times I have wondered "what the heck is going on"! I love that he thinks he is a dinosaur...my daughter went through a dog stage and would frequently lick our faces ?!!??! x #meandmine
ReplyDeleteWe'd love some warmer weather too. Lovely, natural picture of you all x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous family photos - your boys are looking so much like each other, and a perfect mix of both of you. Their personalities are so evident too! Beautiful xx
ReplyDeleteBetter late than never lovely, although you weren't really late! I'm so glad I've found another mum whose son thinks he's a dinosaur. I don't get answers from Toby, I get growls and roars and stomps - unless that's the threenager in him coming out? Last minute photos are the best - they are a true reflection of the every day madness I think! I love this one xx
ReplyDeleteLoving the photo in your home environment. It really captures the boys nature's so well!
