Working on Me

I've felt a little overwhelmed this past week - it started with something small and then it was something else and then something else and then there was a whole load of lack of sleep and it just all feels like it was crushing me a little.

I just needed to snap out of it, but I couldn't, I just felt quite down and very overwhelmed. But it happens right?! And us Mummies keep on going, picking ourselves up everyday, trying to start fresh.

I definitely think the lack of sleep was responsible for most of how I was feeling. It's sweet that Logan's going through a clingy stage in a sense, it's nice to know he wants to be held by his Daddy and I and that it's on our chests that he feels safest. But it's ridiculously tough on you as a person when you can't leave the room to go to the toilet without your baby's world seemingly ending and obviously it's just the worst when you can't get a good nights sleep. It'll take a little time but we'll get Logan back in to his bedtime routine - we went through this with Ethan at a really similar age.

After a bit of a tough old week, Saturday saw me actually pick myself back up. I go a bit of a lay-in which felt amazing and the sun was shining too and we all know that that makes everything feel better. I took the boys on a nature walk, we looked for bugs and flowers and things like that and I also visited my local Pokestop (it's a Pokemon Go thing). I didn't get many Pokeballs, in fact I only got about 3-4 which didn't last me very long at all.. I'm really not sure if this game is intended for stay at home/work at home Mummies..

We had lunch in the garden when we got home and then the boys went down for a nap together (yay!). I usually run around like a mad-woman getting things done when the boys nap together, but this time I didn't. I made a huge bowl of pasta and sat on the sofa with a cola and watched Pretty Little Liars (I'm only on season 2!) and boy did that feel good! Sometimes you just need to work on yourself, before you start working on everything else again.

We spent our afternoon in the garden in the sun relaxing and not worrying about anything else. Ethan played on the slide and Logan played with his toys. I put together an easy dinner of scrambled egg and beans for the boys and I had chips from the chip van that comes around to our area.

It was so nice to just relax and not feel tense, stressed and overwhelmed. It wasn't a very exciting day, but it is exactly what I needed to be able to pick myself back up and start to move forward again.

  2. I can get very grumpy for two reasons... hungry or lack of sleep. Luckily Chloe started sleeping better. (I am not going to jinxed it now I hope) But like Logan over the weekend she was very clingy. Constantly kept buming over to me looking to be picked up. She is teething quite badly at the moment though. I am jealous of you chipper van. We only have an ice cream van calling around.

  4. I love the idea of the nature walk sheet - I might need to download something like that for my little one as I bet she would love something like that. I think lazy afternoons in the garden are fab for winding down and de-stressing. You should buy a bubble machine as it keeps my little one entertained for ours. I recently purchased one for £8 from morrisons. It takes 6xAA batteries but it's worth it as it produces so many bubbles!!!! (I think on the box it promises 10,000 bubbles in a matter of minutes!!!). Watching my little one running around in the bubbles always puts a smile on my face x

    1. It's funny you said that as that's exactly what we were doing. The little green frog you can see on the table is our bubble machine, we had it for ages. The boys love it! :) xx

  5. I need my sleep too, I guess we all get overwhelmed by our days sometimes. My husband is away a lot on business so I call on my mum to help....she is very good at amusing my two little girls.....they love cooking chocolate brownies with her...whilst I catch up on sleep or have a long soak in the bath. The nature walk sheet is a brilliant idea...both my girls love finding butterflies, or wiggly worms...they love getting their hands dirty...I don't know if that is unusual in girls, but I was the same when I was younger.

  6. Ah I'm glad you managed to take some time for yourself. I can't remember the last time I just watched TV during the day! It must be at least a year ago...if watching Cbeebies with at least one child on my lap doesnt count! lol. I really need to try to take some time out, it's so hard though isn't it?
Lovely photos! The bug hunt sounds so much for Ethan! xx

  7. Glad you are feeling better Alex and that you took some time out for ourselves. It is so hard to do that as a mum sometimes, yet it is so important that we take time just for us. I agree that it has been lovely to just sit outside in the sunshine this week and watch the kids play x
