Straight to Curls Ft. Babyliss Curl Secret

I love the wavy hair look, it's so pretty and it looks effortless even if it's not always the case! I used to spend ages pinning photos of women that I don't know who have gorgeous 'beach hair' to my Pinterest board - 'Hair colours + Styles' and I'd tell myself that I'd one day get around to recreating their look. But the truth was -  I never found the time. Until I discovered 'auto curl technology' from Babyliss Curl Secret. The two words together drew me in - 'auto' and 'curls'. The idea of not having to sit there for ages only to find that my curls looked nothing like the women's hair on my pinterest board felt like such a chore, but with this auto curl technology it took all that effort away from me and that is the type of hair curling I do have time for!

Baby & Child Foot Health

There's not a lot cuter than baby feet right?! We all love cooing over just how cute their tiny toes are and how soft their feet feel, but how much do we know about good baby and child foot development? Do we know what to look out for? Are we familiar with some of the things that are recommended for us to try and avoid using with our children when it comes to their foot growth? Today I'm sharing this interesting and insightful infographic from shoefitters-uk.org to raise awareness of good foot health for babies and our children. Oh and just quickly whilst we are on the subject of feet.. how cute are these dinosaur wellies from Charles Clinkard? I'm thinking of getting them for Ethan for his second birthday in April as he is obsessed with dinosaurs at the moment, thanks to a certain little Master George Pig! ;)

Baby #2: 19 Weeks.. Feeling More Human but Struggling to Bend Over!

Pregnancy, Bump Updates, Baby #2, 19 Weeks Pregnant,

These bump updates come up faster than I can blink, I'm sure they do! But here we are again another week over..! And I'm guessing time will get even faster when I'm a Mum to two - eek! Does anyone have the secret to slowing down time? Just a little?.. please?

This week has pretty much the same as last, though I have had some more energy (Yay!). It's nice to be able to get on with stuff and get things done in the house that I'd fallen so far behind with. I've not had many symptoms other than a bit of stomach pain which tends to come and go. It's pretty strange owning what I would now class as a pair of boobs, I'm not really a fan, and so I can't wait for them to eventually return to their tinier version post pregnancy! I'm happy with fried eggs.

I've always liked my food and I'm trying to eat healthier for the baby and for myself but you can't beat the likes of pasta, pizza and a good old takeaway. Taking of dinners.. after I've eaten I'm now struggling to bend over, my stomach is so full of baby and food that it pushes everything up and I sort of feel like I can't breathe!

The baby is still moving around in there but not at it's usual time of between 8.30-9.30pm anymore. The baby has actually been more still this week and has been making me worried, but then last night I felt two big kicks whilst laying in bed - so I think I just have a lazy baby. ;)

People have started noticing my bump a lot more and asking questions, I love having a bump so I don't mind and love having the excuse to talk about my excitement for becoming a Mum again!

It's less than a week now until we find out the gender!
I'd love to know what your prediction is? Blue or Pink?

Little Kids with Big Dreams

We all want our children to grow up happy, healthy and find a job that at least pays the mortgage and allows for an annual family holiday. Our children are a bit more ambitious though - they want to grow up to be mermaids, dinosaur hunters or superheroes! We may be a long way off from helping our children fill out any application forms, but let's look at a few seemingly impossible dreams and see if, one day, we can help make them come true..

Baby #2: Treats For Me and for Other Expectant Mums!

Being pregnant is amazing but it's also hard and so is giving birth, so it seems only fair and right that us expectant Mums can treat ourselves during this time, right? .. Well I think so anyway! ;) Here are some of the things I've been loving lately..

Your Options for Unwanted Baby Clothes Given as Presents

This Christmas I was lucky enough to get some gorgeous presents, and of course that included quite a few for Ethan! He really liked all his toys, and he got some lovely clothes, but unfortunately, he was already too big for some of them. It’s really hard to guess the size of children sometimes isn’t it? You don’t want to get something so big it’s put away until next year and promptly forgotten about, but then nor do you want to pick out something that either won’t last or will only fit them for five minutes.

So anyway, I now have a few brand new, and very nice clothes, and what with the ones he’s also hardly worn and already grown out of, I was wondering what the best thing to do with them all would be. (I have to admit, I’m not getting rid of everything… we got the most beautiful pyjama set with paisley bird which I’m hanging on to for baby no 2! )

The Ordinary Moments [W/ending 25th Jan 2015]

I've decided that I want to take more photos - yes, that is actually possible! ;) And that I want to document those photos more, I don't want them just living on my iMac anymore in my iPhoto library collecting dust. I have been doing lots of pinning lately on pinterest and am feeling so inspired by memory keeping that I have even set up a new board dedicated to ways I can keep memories. I've seen 'Project Life' floating about on Pinterest and on one of my favourite bloggers - Amy's site and I'm seriously considering starting it, though I've heard it's not cheap. But anyway, with all of this in mind I've decided to link up with another of my favourite bloggers, Katie, and start doing more posts like this one, so that I can look back in time and remember the ordinary things we do as a family from day to day. Here's a look at our weekend..

Ethan playing with his Duplo. His Daddy is massively into Lego and so we are trying to get Ethan into Duplo - it seems to be working. He has a big tub that he'd just tipped all over the floor here.

Make Memories this Year with Merlin Annual Pass!

There are 52 weekends in the year and what with half term breaks plus the entire summer holidays there is so much time to have family fun. But how can you create fond memories whilst keeping the fun, without breaking the budget?

Baby #2: 18 Weeks.. You've Got Bigger Again!

18 weeks pregnant,

The weeks are seriously flying by - it'll be June in no time!

This week my bump has grown again, it looks and feels larger and my regular clothes don't fit me so well anymore. I'm now wearing a lot of maternity clothes including a gorgeous maternity swimsuit that I purchased from The Essential One, after asking for your recommendations via Facebook (thank you).

I feel the baby move everyday now, mostly it feels like little bubbles of movement or flutters but I do get the occasional kick too. It's such a wonderful feeling. Baby is still most active between 8.30-9.30pm.

I'm not feeling as tired as I have been, I'm starting to feel more human again which is nice. I just hope it lasts! I haven't had as many headaches and have only really had some slight heartburn this week. So  overall it's been a week of not feeling too bad.

I can't believe that in two weeks time we will hopefully know the gender of our second baby. We can't wait to see the baby again via the ultrasound scan and we are so looking forward to knowing the gender so that we can start buying pink or blue and deciding on a name. :)

Documenting childhood through photographs

Taking photographs of your children and documenting their early lives is one of the real pleasures of being a parent. A simple snap and that precious moment is preserved forever, not just for you to look at but for your child and any future generations too.
Here are some of the key childhood moments that are worth remembering…

How I Juggle Life as A Working, Blogging, Pregnant Mum, Wife And Everything Else

It's no secret that life seems to speed up once you become a parent. Everyday I get into bed at night and think "Wow, is that really another day gone?!" Time seems to slip away and it can be hard to juggle and fit in everything that life throws at you daily. I'm no expert on time management and sometimes I let the pressure get to me and I need a good old cry, just like probably most other Mums do at some point. But I wanted to write this post to point out the things that do help me stay on top of the sheer craziness that can sometimes be life!

Tips To Find The Perfect Bed For Your Child

There are many different factors to consider when choosing a new bed for your child. Whether your little one is moving from a cot to a big bed for the first time, or an older child is in need of a bed upgrade, it's crucial to pick a bed that they will like, is safe and comfortable. Here are some tips on finding the perfect bed for your child.

Are you Travelling Abroad This Year?.. If So, You Might Just Want to Have a Read of This!

If you've been a reader of my blog for a while now you may remember THIS post where I told you about what the brand new travel site Amadeus. If you didn't see my post or if you haven't yet heard about Amadeus, then let me tell you a little about it..

How I Overcame My Teen Struggle With Body Dysmorphic Disorder

I never even knew that invisible braces existed up until now. When I met Adam at 14, his two front teeth were mis-shapen and he went on to have to wear braces to correct them, he really disliked them and he felt self conscious even though I reminded him consistantly that they never bothered me and that I thought he was gorgeous.

And then I started thinking about how all of us, can at times, be particularly self-conscious when it comes to the way we look. Whether or not it's a long term feeling, just a phase or the occasional 'off day'. We've probably all at some point or other looked in the mirror and wanted to change something physical about ourselves. Myself included..

Baby #2: 17 Weeks.. I'm Feeling You Move Everyday Now!

I'm a little late with my update this week as tomorrow I turn 18 weeks pregnant, every week seems to be just completely flying past!

I've felt so good since hearing the baby's heartbeat, it gave me the reassurance I needed, as the time between the 12 week scan and first feeling the baby move felt so nerve racking. I now feel so much more confident that the baby is okay and I cannot wait for the next scan at 20 weeks! I really hope to be able to find out the gender and like I said in my post about our gender preference - we will be totally happy either way, which is a good feeling.

I've felt lots of movement this week, it's gone from 'flutters' to actual movement or 'kicks' which I am able to feel with my hand. Adam even felt a little movement the other night. Baby seems to be most active around 8.30-9.30pm at the moment, which is when I'm usually all snuggled up in bed watching TV so I get to lay there just enjoying the feeling.

I've felt less dizzy this week thankfully, but am still getting headaches. I've had some heartburn again, but not much. I'm still tired but I'm learning my limits and I'm learning to sort of live with it for the foreseeable future. I feel a lot larger this time around than I did with Ethan, and I know that's totally normal, but it's sort of strange feeling that squished feeling around the top of my stomach so much earlier this time. It makes it harder to bend over without feeling short of breath and even to walk up the stairs - but hey that may just be because I'm totally unfit! ;)

Tips To Slow Down Premature Ageing

While ageing can't be prevented, it can certainly be slowed down. The majority of us parents deal with lots of stress on a daily basis.. from keeping the house clean with kids running all around, to simply managing your day to day life with children, it can sometimes be difficult to remember to take care of yourself. Although grey hair and wrinkling skin may just be in your genetics, there are also some other factors that should be taken into consideration. By applying the following tips to your everyday life, you should be able to slow down premature ageing and keep those grey hairs at bay for a little while longer.

Money Saving: 10 Innovative Ideas to Spend less, but Get More!

With more economic cuts on the horizon, many families are looking to how they can make further savings on household budgets that are already tightly squeezed. Here are some creative tactics to save money without feeling the pinch too badly.

1. Sleep more

Go to bed half an hour earlier during the week, and wake up half an hour later on the weekends (if the kids will let you). The more time you’re asleep, the less time you’re up using household energy, and many providers charge more if you’re using appliances during peak periods such as early morning. Benefit  - More sleep = a healthier, happier you

2. Find discounts

You can make savings all over your daily life with a bit of knowhow. There are numerous free online games you can play and some websites, like meccabingo.com, offer free bonuses and other member benefits. There are numerous opportunities now to earn cash back via a selection of retailers; you can take the kids to a theme park for half-price by taking a pair of scissors to the side of a cereal packet, or you can follow discount voucher sites for their deals. Benefit  - Feel less guilty about enjoying life’s simple pleasures

3. Use less heating

Try wearing warm clothes around the home for a few extra weeks every year, so the heating doesn’t need to go on so early or off so late. With energy bills so high now, this must be one of the biggest savings you can make. Also, look into whether you can insulate your roof or walls with a government grant. Benefit - You should gradually become more acclimatised to cold weather, meaning one day you can enjoy a holiday in Iceland.

4. More showers

If you’re a bath-lover, and let’s face it, who isn’t, try taking showers more often instead. The amount of water you save is huge. Benefit - You’ll save time, and also when you do have a bath, the sense of luxury is heightened.

5. Fringe benefits

Guys - if you're beginning to lose your hair, consider saving money on expensive haircuts by shaving your head, and cut your spending on shaving foam and pricey razor blades by growing a beard. Ladies - keep an eye out for trainee hairdressers and beauty specialists who will give you a freebie in return for the practise. Benefit - Continue to look great, but for a lot less money.

6. P2P Lending (peer-to-peer)

If you're not familiar with peer-to-peer lending, it's where P2P lending platforms like that of Lending Works offer fantastic returns by lending your money directly to creditworthy borrowers. Benefit - The borrower benefits from low-cost loans while you earn interest. They also go the extra mile to ensure your money is always safe by protecting against the risk of borrower default.

7. Centralise your debt

Many of us have all kinds of different debt, from mortgages to credit and store cards to car payments - it can mean that your bank account is already almost empty the day after payday, and that you have difficulty keeping track of what’s going out when. Try to get a loan with a reasonable repayment rate that will allow you to pay off as many of your debts as possible, and so you know you only have one large payment going out on a set date. Benefit - Less stress

8. Go vegetarian

Make like Paul McCartney (and me) ;) and switch to a veggie-only diet. You’ll save heaps, especially if you invest in a veggie-box scheme which helps the local economy. Independent grocers are often cheaper than supermarkets, if you can handle the odd misshapen carrot. Benefit - Better for you, better for the planet, and it may just force you to become a more creative cook!

9. Drink more water

Water is, if not exactly free, certainly cheap. At work or home try switching to water over soft drinks, and if you’re in the pub, have a pint of the clear stuff every few rounds. Benefit - NHS guidelines recommend a certain level of water intake every day to stay in full health.

10. Take up foraging

If you like taking a walk on the weekends, bring along a plastic bag when you go to pick up any fallen fruit you come across, or wild-growing herbs. Benefit - Free food!

Home Decor: My Growing Obsession With Baskets!

Does anyone else have an obsession with purchasing new baskets for their home like I do?

I don't quite know what it is but I do love a good basket! I really think there's something about them that look great in any home and they're totally practical and never look out-dated! I don't know.. perhaps it's because I'm a big fan of the modern/rustic decor look?

The Top 10 Myths About Contraception

Today I am sharing a great guest post all about myths surrounding contraception. There are perhaps more myths surrounding sex and contraception than any other medical subject. People are often embarrassed to discuss these issues with medical professionals, and this can leave them vulnerable to a range of misunderstandings.

Also, the sheer number of contraceptive options now available can cause confusion. From the combined pill, the low-dose pill and the mini pill to condoms, implants, injections and more, it’s a confusing world out there. Here are 10 of the most common contraception myths.

Baby #2: 16 weeks.. I heard your heartbeat today!

Firstly thank you for all the lovely comments on my first baby #2 bump update (15 weeks), it's so lovely to have people following along with my pregnancy journey. It truly means a lot to me.

Today is Thursday and I am currently 16 weeks and 3 days pregnant. Today I had my second midwife appointment, I had really been looking forward to it in the hope that I'd get to listen to baby's heartbeat and luckily enough I was able to. (I've heard that some midwives won't check the babies heartbeat at the 16 week appointment anymore, luckily mine did, but if yours doesn't, I've heard you can insist and that it usually works, so worth a try if yours is coming up?).

Hearing the babies heartbeat has put me in such a great mood, I worried my way through my pregnancy with Ethan and I'm finding myself doing the same with this one too. So any reassurance that all is okay makes me feel so incredibly happy and of course, lucky.

Symptom wise I've had pains in my stomach, which my midwife thinks is simply growing pains mixed with the fact that my muscles are still split from having Ethan (she says I will have to have physio after this baby and may have to wear a band on my stomach by the time I see her next) . I've also had heartburn, headaches and have been feeling dizzy due to a naturally low blood pressure made worse by being pregnant. And of course, the ever present exhaustion is well, just that..very much present!

Everything feels more squished in my stomach now and I'm sure it didn't feel like this at 16 weeks with Ethan? Things seem different second time around, but they do say that every pregnancy and labour is different don't they?!

Other than that I am excited for the scan at 20 weeks and so very excited at the whole concept of being a family of four this year.

Our Big Christmas Clean-Up

That's it - Christmas is officially over in our house! The decorations have now all come down and are waiting to go back up into the attic until next year. The brand toys have all found brand new homes and I am utterly exhausted!

Baby #2: What’s my gender preference?

It’s just four weeks now until I am able to find out what gender my second child will be!

Lots of people have asked me, like they did with Ethan, whether or not I will be finding out the baby’s sex. And like with Ethan – my answer is ‘Of course!’ (that is, If I can of course). My Husband and I are both (luckily) in complete agreement with this. We both have somewhat of a lack of patience when it comes to something as exciting as this is and for so us, we’d just prefer to know. Plus, then we can go ahead and stop calling the baby ‘baby’ or ‘it’ and refer to them as ‘he’ or ‘she’. And then there’s all the fun of being able to buy stuff for the new baby in either blue or pink. ;)  I also like having time to get used to whether we’ll be having a little boy or girl join the family. So for us it’s a definite if we can find out, then we absolutely will!
So what’s our preference? Boy or girl?

My Hair Routine

I'm one of those people that have quite straight hair naturally. There's not a curl in sight, sadly, I love good wavy hair and would love to have the time to spend curling my own. But as a busy Mum, that time doesn't always exist and when it does it is usually better spent doing something else.

I have to admit I don't do a lot with my hair except wash it every other day and use dry shampoo in between. Oh and have it highlighted probably around every three months. I don't even get it cut professionally, my Husband does that, which explains the wonkiness. ;) And I never really style it or wear it up, I'm sort of most comfortable with it just hanging down. One thing I have started to do a lot more of recently though, is straighten it!

Two Years of Blogging

Two years ago today I posted my first ever blog post here on Bump to Baby. It was this one - a post about being with Adam for what was ten years and is now twelve. I'd messed around with the idea of blogging before and had set up a few others but they didn't last long as I couldn't quite find my 'place' in the ever-growing world of blogging.

Baby #2: 15 weeks ..Feeling Movement?

This is my first weekly bump update. I would have loved to have started from the very beginning with week 1, but with keeping the pregnancy to ourselves and also dealing with what was utter exhaustion, I didn't. I'm in my second trimester now with baby #2 and am not feeling as exhausted as often as I was anymore. I have been lucky again with this pregnancy and haven't been sick (I wasn't sick with Ethan either). My body just gets very very tired during pregnancy instead.

This week and some of last I am sure I've been feeling flutters of movement, but it sort of feels too early? I've had some heartburn and my blood pressure has been lower too, meaning I'm getting dizzy a lot. My lower back has been hurting due to my growing bump - which sort of seems to have sprung out of no-where!

I'm loving being pregnant again and having a bump to cuddle but I'm still feeling very nervous and anxious and just want the next scan to be here so that I know that baby is healthy and is just okay. I worried all the way throughout my pregnancy with Ethan and I seem to be doing the same with this one too!
