Ten Common Things I've Never Done

Today I thought I'd write a bit of a different sort of post, one that is a little bit more personal about me. I consider myself to be pretty much my own individual, in that I've never really liked to follow a crowd. I'm very open-minded and love being inspired by others but I have my own mind and I like to do my own thing. I'm the type of person that likes to discover and do things in my own time, rather than when I'm expected to or when other people may be. My Mum always installed in me the value of being myself and doing what makes me happy rather than following a crowd. This post sort of relates to that, in that I'm sharing ten things that I've never done, that could well seem a little unusual to other people..

1. I've never been to a club - I'm just not sure that it'd be my type of thing. I'd much rather a quiet night in, in front of the TV with my Husband and a cup of tea - that's so much more my style!

2. I've never been in a relationship with anyone else apart from Adam - I met Adam when I'd just turned 14 years old, he's always made me feel so incredibly happy and so we've been together ever since.

3. I've never really been one to travel and have never been on a cruise - I was around 17 years old when I first went abroad. I went to Rome with Adam and his family and the night before we went I cried through fear of flying, though it turned out that I actually quite enjoyed the flight. I've never been on any sort of cruise before either. Though, now that we're a family, I'm really starting to like the idea of travelling and holidays, as there are so many magical memories to be made from family holidays. And I do quite fancy myself a mediterranean cruise one day!

4.  I've never seen a lot of the 'classic' films - My Husband often tells me that he thinks it's shocking that I've never seen many of the, what he calls, classic sort of films such as - Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Home Alone, Star Wars, Terminator, etc etc. I'm only just watching the Jurassic Park films for the first time now - I recently watched the first two and was surprised to find that I actually really enjoyed them!

5. I've never understood eating meat - I accept this is something that different people have different opinions on. But personally, I've just never understood the want to eat animals. I was raised as a meat-eater, as all my family eat meat, but once I was old enough to know what it was, I stopped eating it.

6. I've never broken a bone or had an operation - I actually don't like writing this as I'm a little superstitious and now I worry that I've just somehow jinxed myself! But to date, I have had no broken bones or operations!

7. I've never been ice skating or skiing - There's no particularly reason as to why I've not done either of these things, I just haven't. I guess if I think about it, I'm not particularly that fussed about doing either as they're both very much associated with the cold and boy, do I hate being cold!

8. I've never been stung by a bee or a wasp - As with point number 6. I feel uneasy writing that statement as now I worry that it's likely to happen!

9. I've never learnt to swim properly - I did take some swimming lessons as a child and I remember my poor Mum trying to teach me to swim, but a lack of confidence meant that I never really learnt to swim. I've sort of picked it up a bit as I've got older and can now swim a little, but I really can't swim very far at all.

10. I've never had short hair - I've just always liked having long hair and I rarely wear it up (despite the fact that it often gets pulled by Ethan and now Logan!). My Mum used to try and get me to have it cut short as she always said it would suit my face more, but I never agreed with her and so have always kept it long.

So that's it - ten common things that I've never personally done. What are some of the more common sorts of things that you, yourself, have never done?

  1. I'm so with you on the movie thing! I've never been good at watching the classics, but what you list I have seen. I'm thinking of 50s through to 00s films. Pulp fiction, clockwork orange, fight club etc... I guess we just have different movie taste eg?! H xx

  2. OOh it sounds like you need a duvet day with some of those films - Harry Potter is brilliant I loved them all and Home Alone films are equally brilliant. Ive never been skiing either, I hate snow x

    1. Oh yes, a duvet day sounds utterly bliss, especially so right now as being a Mummy to two very young boys is mostly very draining lol! xx

  3. I really loved reading this list, Alex. I feel like I know you a lot better.

I am the same when it comes to classic films. I've lost count of the amount of times that people have told me to watch Pulp Fiction or Fight Club. The fact that everybody's seen them kinda puts me off in a way.

I think it's so important to be your own person and I hope it's a lesson I can teach my daughter.

  4. I would like to say I've never been to a club, but unfortunately have. You've not missed anything! I am veggie too, through and through for 16 years or so and would never go back. I've never been on a cruise either although am slowly coming round to the idea. Also never been skiing and honestly I don't want to (I hate being cold). This has really made me think now about things I have neve done that many people have!

  6. I love this list, so fun to find out more about you! I haven't seen a lot of classic films either, although I have watched Harry Potter and Home Alone and would definitely recommend both! I think that being your own person is really important, and I wish that as a teenager I didn't follow the crowd as much as I did. xx

    1. Thanks Chantal! I'm going to have to try and sit and watch them at some point I think, I think it'll happen anyway now that I have children. Ah, I think that as teenagers it's easy to follow others, it's one of those things that as we get older we realise we just don't need to do xx

  7. Like reading posts like this. I really enjoy myself going to clubs with my partner and friends. In fact I am going to Liverpool this weekend! But I do much prefer a night in front of the TV. But once in a while going to a club, gets me excited haha!
I've never been ice skating or skiing before either. And it's so lovely that you and Adam have been together for that long and your first relationship too, so lovely. x

    1. I think I liked the music side to being in a club, I'm just not big on drinking and getting drunk really. Ah thank you, I feel so lucky to have found him so young. xx

  8. Would you like to take any of these things off the list? I can't think of common things I haven't done, although I'm sure there are lots, when it's your life it just seems normal doesn't it?

  9. Loved reading this Alex- I too have never done some of these things. How funny, I think we are quite similar in many respects! I hate clubs, and would much rather spend the evening at home, I have never been stung by a bee or wasp, I've never been skiing or on a cruise and I too never really learnt to swim properly! My knowledge of 'classic films' is quite atrocious haha! xx

  10. What a great post! Nice way to get to know more about you. I have never been stung either. I don't mind bees but wasps scare me. My gran, who died when she was 69, was never stung by a bee or wasp. We can get there! I've also not watched a lot of classic films. I watched Dirty Dancing when I was 19, so 10 years ago LOL!. I think it's lovely that you've been with Adam all that time. Real childhood sweethearts.

  12. I love this post!! I can't believe you've never been to a club? Not sure why because I don't like them either! Xx

  13. Maybe the fact that you haven't been ice skating or skiing is to thank for never breaking a bone? LOL.

  14. Love this list, great to find out a little bit more about you. I've never really watched many of the classic films although i have watched home alone. 16. Great post, I have done all of these things except go on a cruise! I feel in two minds about a cruise as I really love to go and explore and have the freedom to do that when on holiday - but then again I want to experience as I know so many people love it! I definitly don't miss the club scene, I was never really in to it despite my love of Dancing - and like you I much prefer a cosy night at home with the hubs or friends :) xxx
