Karcher Steam Cleaner Review

karcher, karcher steam cleaner review, steam cleaners

I'm known to be a bit of clean freak, so getting the chance to have a go with Karcher's new steam cleaner was a bit exciting for me I'll admit.

As I've mentioned a few times now throughout my recent blog posts, we're trying to move, so we've had a couple of house viewings and I've blitzed the house both times. It's something that possibly I use to do nearly every week, perhaps nearly everyday even. But that was before I became a mother, now having time to have a quick hoover daily is as good as it gets.

The new steam cleaner from Karcher proved itself to be a rather fine tool when it came to deep cleaning my house and it, perhaps weirdly, felt good to blast away through the power of intense steam  the bits of dirt that I use to keep on top of daily.

The steam cleaner is a fantastic tool for anyone and would be the perfect tool for an industrial cleaning company, but as a Mum it was even better as it is so quick to use. With time being of the essence these days it was exactly what I needed it to be; speedy. It was also easy to use, once set up. And best of all and probably most crucially the steam cleaner prevents the need for chemicals, it cleans but without the worry of those harmful chemicals being inhaled by us or worse our children.

The many attachments that came with it proved to be of great use, I often swapped between them for different areas. It's an all round great product and something that I'm very happy to have the pleasure of owning. If you're debating this one.. it is worth it.

Meet my Brit Mums Live Sponsor and Win a YEARS Supply of Spatone®

spatone, iron supplement, liquid iron supplement, nelsons, daily iron, vitamin c supplement

Last year I became aware of what seemed to be one of the best, most exciting blogging events for any Mummy Blogger;  'BritMums Live!' and I felt a little sad not be attending as it looked like those that did were having such a fantastic time learning so much and getting to meet other bloggers some of whom they'd known for a while through blogging and had then become friends with.

brit mums, brit mums live 2014, blogging event

BritMums Live! is the UK’s biggest, two-day social media conference and blogger event, where lifestyle bloggers and social influencers gather to meet and socialise, network with brands, improve their skills, and fire their creativity.

This year I have very kindly been sponsored to attend this event by Spatone, which is a Nelsons brand. I am so so excited and grateful and I can't wait to learn some more about the blogging world and meet some other bloggers I've been friends with for a while now, especially Hayley from  http://www.sparklesandstretchmarks.com.

spatone, iron booster, low iron, nelsons,

Spatone is a unique natural liquid iron supplement. Generally, iron is a very difficult mineral for the body to absorb. However, the iron naturally present in Spatone has been shown to be easily absorbed, with up to 40% bioavailability, compared to 5- 20% from food and other iron supplements. It's available from Boots priced £8.25 for 28 sachets which is a 4 weeks supply.

It is perfect if you're pregnant or if you've recently had a baby as during this time there is often an  increased demand for iron and you could be experiencing symptoms of iron deficiency including; tiredness, fatigue, poor concentration and headaches.

I am so pleased to be sponsored by Spatone as I, myself suffered with extremely low iron after giving birth to Ethan and it made me incredibly ill. I am still trying to get my iron levels back to normal so adding this to my drink to get that extra iron is just so easy (it's best used with a fruit juice like orange as it will help the body absorb it) and it has a lot less of the unpleasant side effects that the traditional iron tablets have.

On top of being my BritMums Live! sponsor Spatone have very kindly offered the chance for one of my readers to win a YEARS supply of Spatone for themselves! Yes, a YEARS supply!!

For your chance to enter this fantastic giveaway, just enter via the rafflecopter form below. UK only, all entries will be moderated.

Happy Halloween (For Thursday)..

This is actually the first year that we are 'celebrating' Halloween and by that I mean giving out sweets to trick or treaters and dressing the windows with Halloween related decoration. And to be honest, I have to admit, I'm pretty excited about it!

We got these awesome Halloween bits from Wilko, except for the spider (Spiderpodium) which you can slightly see in the front there which is from breffo and is mostly used for camping. It glows in the dark and will hold pretty much any device, i.e. iPhone etc. So it's pretty useful, but we're using it as a Halloween accessory, haha :)

RRP. £14.95 buy here

The Pumpkin light is completely awesome, it costs something like £7 only and even included the batteries! It has a suction on it so will stick to a window or a wire to hang from something if you choose to. I cannot wait to put it up in the window on Halloween night. Most people have Pumpkins but this pumpkin light is so much more awesome ;)

The Pumpkin on the first photo costs runs £5 and can be re-used every single year which is what I love about it. It's probably the easy option for people like me who don't have the time to carve their own pumpkin and don't want to spend out each year. I'd make a right mess with a real Pumpkin so this one from Wilko is definitely for me! I just popped a tea light candle in the back and ta-da, it's ready to go! I love it.

Check out Wilko's full range of Halloween goodies including loot bags, costumes, baking tools, accessories and much more here.

These mini milk chocolate pumpkins go nicely with the whole pumpkin theme and cost me just £1.50 from Tesco.

For Halloween we are drinking this! The limited edition sparkling Shloer Berry Punch - which tastes gorgeous and is the perfect drink this Halloween!

Oh and I couldn't leave this out of my Halloween post! This was taken a couple of weekends ago for my sister-in-laws (pictured middle) school art project, the whole family got together and recreated this spooky version of The Last Supper which she will now paint onto a canvas!

I hope you all have a fantastically scary Halloween this Thursday, whatever you are doing!

Hair Styles I Love

I love long hair, I couldn't imagine my hair being short, not that there's anything wrong with having short hair, I just don't think it would really suit me (though my Mum has always begged to differ).

I have long highlighted straight hair, with not a curl in sight. I feel lucky to have straight hair as I know that a lot of women spend hours straightening their own hair each week, but I do love a wave. Wavy long hair, in my opinion, is very pretty. You can get the look so easily nowadays using curling tongs or even a straightener or if you wanted to you could check out stores stocking a great selection of hair extensions and accessories. Here are some more hairstyles that I love..

What's your favourite hairstyle?

The 'C' Word

I love Autumn, I do, but with the clocks having gone backwards and the days feeling that much shorter due to the darker evenings, my mind has turned to Winter and even the 'C' word has begun to pop up in my mind from time to time. Christmas. Winter. How has it all come around so fast?

Maybe it's just me, but this year has gone the fastest any year has ever gone before. I know that that's mostly because I had my first baby in April and preparing and then learning how to be a Mum has pretty much consumed all of my days and at times nights. But I do remember so vividly exclaiming to everyone this time last year 'No! It cannot be so close to Christmas already!' and a whole year has gone by since then and I feel I am almost still trying to get over how fast last Christmas came let alone worry about Christmas this year..

But it's not all so bad, the darker evenings are cosy and it's nice to look at the clock and feel (from the dark blanket outside) that it is later then it is and realise that actually I've still got a few more hours left in the day to squeeze some more into it.

I guess it's nice to pull out the winter clothing and start layering more and more on to achieve the ultimate 'snug fest', not forgetting those big, chunky, fluffy socks that hit the tills every year.

It will be so much more meaningful to celebrate our first Christmas as a family this year. Ethan's first Christmas.. that's a pretty special time and one that will be just so exciting for us all including our extended family.

I guess there's a lot to look forward to in the next coming months. We've got Halloween next and then Bonfire night so we'll have to see if we manage to do anything a bit more special than usual for those. The different occasions throughout the year mean so much more than they ever use to now.. I want to celebrate them all now just to show Ethan the different 'holidays'. But I know, that it is Christmas that is really going to be the most wonderful time of year now that we are a three.. :)

What you'll need when taking Baby Swimming

We may be out of Summer now, but taking your baby for a swim is a fun activity that you can do all year round with most towns having somewhere with an indoor swimming pool these days. We've only taken Ethan once so far and that is purely to do with my Husbands shifts and how busy we have been. But we know how much Ethan loved it so we're planning on going again real soon.

I wanted to put together this little list for any other Mums/Dads that are in the position that I was before we did take him for his first time and are wondering what exactly they will need to remember to take with them when they go. So here's what I think are the essentials..
  • Swim nappies - we used Huggies Little Swimmers and they were fab!
  • A towel for baby, preferably a hooded towel.
  • A warm bottle for afterwards (if bottle feeding) - all that swimming can make baby very hungry and tired and a bottle will probably help to settle him/her.
  • If your baby has started weaning then some baby food, again, because baby will be hungry.
  • The usual changing bag, with clothes, normal nappies, wipes etc.
  • If your baby is a bit older than there are some great childrens floats from Zoggs that you might want to consider.
  • For swimwear, we took Ethan in just his swim nappy but if you wanted to you could look into boys and fun, girls swimwear  - it's totally up to you!

So as you can see the list is really not that big nor scary. Swimming for us was a great success, Ethan had so much fun and we did too just from watching him!

Review: Lollipop Lane & £50 Voucher Giveaway

I really like using grow bags with Ethan for bedtime, it means that we never have to worry about any covers raising up over his face. We've used grow bags with him since he was first born and he has just grown out of his two which sized newborn-6 months.

Luckily, just as we we're about to be on the hunt for a new one for him, the lovely people at Lollipop Lane dropped an email into my inbox asking if I would like to review something for them. Their website displays so many utterly beautiful baby items including baby bedding, nursery furniture and much more including this totally adorable Fish & Chips sleeping-bag which when it came through the door I loved even more.

It really is just such a lovely grow bag, much better than the two sleeping bags we had for Ethan before this. It has the usual zip on the side with the poppers at the top and as most grow bags are is so easy to use. The material inside is really soft and comfortable for Ethan to sleep in. I'm so pleased I choose it and so grateful for the chance to review it! It's priced at just £19.99 (with free delivery) and is available here.

There are so many other lovely little items that I wish I owned from Lollipop Lane myself, their products are beautiful. They have very very kindly offered my readers the chance for one lucky person to win a £50 gift voucher to spend over at Lollipop Lane!

All you have to do to be in for a chance of winning is visit the site and tell me what you'd spend your voucher on in the comments section below. Please also leave your email and/or twitter account name so that I can contact you if you were to win. UK only. Entries will be fully moderated. Best of luck!

5 Tips to Help you Make Quick Extra Cash

I swear the cost of living just seems to go up and up and up. Seriously, where will it stop?
Everybody these days needs that extra bit of cash, especially wish Christmas on it's way, but what are the secrets of making cash quickly? Here I share my own top tips..

1. eBay!

How many random things have you got lying about in your house that really you could sell to make a quick bit of money on? It's really not as hard as it looks to sell items on eBay and it's really worthwhile to bump up cash for the month. If you have nothing that you feel is worth selling, have you considered buying and selling? If not, it might be worth looking into!

2. Make money on old clothes, blue rays, CD's DVD's etc etc.

Sites such as Music Magpie is a great site for getting an almost instant valuation on your old stuff that perhaps you wouldn't be able to sell on eBay and what's more is you can send your items off to them for free and then you'll be paid for them, it's an amazing service.

3. Car boots

These can be really fun to do and a great little money earner on things you no longer want/need. It'll also help you clear lots of space in your home for any new purchases ;)

4. Look within

What are you good at? Could you use any talents you have to make money? i.e writing skills, web page design, etc etc. Advertise your services via local newspapers and/or local facebook groups or if you are a crafter/creator sell your creations via eBay/Etsy.

5. Use coupons & shop online

Okay, it's not going to directly put money in the bank, but if you were to shop online you'd probably find that your shopping bill was considerably lower, since your not being drawn into all the 'deals' and 'treats' dotted around the supermarkets. Coupons are also a nice little money saver!

Every Kitchen should Have These!

I've never been a 'cook', it's just not me. Following instructions is not my strong point. I love to eat and I want to be a good cook, I really do. So I'm trying and to help me on my way I think naturally it's a good idea to have some great kitchen products to give me that 'inspiration'. Here's three kitchen products that I think every kitchen needs!

1. This Pop-up cookbook or tablet holder is a fantastic tool for new cooks like me, who will be using cook books quite regularly. I'd found before owning this that either my page would close or that it would get covered in food splatters and such. It can also be used with a tablet such as an iPad if preferred. The stand will even fold away for easy storage. I think that it's a brilliant idea and love mine! Price: £20

2. I love love love this rotating spice organiser. When we started 'proper' cooking, we suddenly started acquiring spices and with no where for them to go we decided it was time to invest in a spice rack. This one is fabulous purely because of it's rotating feature and the fact that it fits so much onto it! We actually keep this in our cupboard where it fits perfectly and looks so modern. I love that we can reach in and get what we want without everything falling over. This really is awesome and so good for the price of £15.30.

3. Last but not least, is this box grater. The complete idea of it is amazing - I'm a clean freak and though sometimes I may feel like eating a cheese and tomato sandwich the thought of the mess of the grated cheese everywhere (I only like it grated) puts me off but with this that worry is no more. I can grate away with nearly no mess made at all! I can even measure how much cheese I've used by using the measurements on the box which also comes with it's own little lid. The whole product is of the best quality and you can really feel that compared to an old grater like we had. The non slip rings and the comfy handles make all the difference, I just can't believe that I didn't own this sooner! It's priced at £15.30 and is so worth it!

All of the above products are from OXO. OXO products are available at many retailers across the UK, you can find your nearest at www.oxouk.com then use the 'Store Locator' tab if you are interested in purchasing any of these products.

Invisible Readers

Before I started my own blog, I used to read a select few that I'd found via youTube. I'd watch their videos and really admire what they did. Karrisx and Anna Saccone were two of the main youTubers and bloggers I'd enjoy watching and reading about. I would have loved to be able to create my own youTube videos, but there are so many reasons I don't. The time - I just don't have it. The ability to appear confident on camera - it's just not me. The fact that I prefer writing - ta da! The blogger inside me was born!

I've said many times that I love blogging. It's not all about the 'products'. For me, it's about the 'diary' element that blogging brings. When I reflect on certain times in the past year, I can click onto my blog find the date I have in mind and bam, I can sit and read about how I felt at that time, how much I've changed, how much life has changed. It means I can remember all the little details that a lifetime of memories sometimes forgets. For that, writing a blog, is just wonderful.

Before I created my own little space on the Internet and whilst reading and taking inspiration from the various blogs I was reading at that time, there was something I didn't do.. I never commented. I really enjoyed the posts that were being written, I'd log on to their blogs/youTube accounts daily to see if they'd posted anything new. But I'd never leave a comment. Why would I? I was there to read or to watch, not comment.

Now that I have my own blog, I realise the power of a comment to the blogger. Stats are lovely, logging on to my Blogger account and seeing how many people have visited my site in one day, always brings a smile to my face. But comments, well they are that much more exciting. It tells me that 'real' people are reading and enjoying what I'm writing, it serves to reassure me that I'm not 'talking' to myself. My Husband and I were talking about this very subject the other day and he reminded me that he though he spends a great deal of time reading forums and such on topics he enjoys, he has never once commented.

And this in turn opened up a question in my mind. Do I have any invisible readers? I'd like to think that perhaps I do, but who knows, maybe my little blog isn't yet at that stage and that's okay, I'll keep working at it. But if I do have any invisible readers and you are one of them, please do say Hi one time, it would be nice to know that you are there.

What to get HIM for his Birthday (& other special Occasions)

Men - they're so hard to buy for.. There's Valentines, his birthday, the marriage anniversary, not forgetting the 'when we got to together' anniversary, oh and of course, Christmas.

The list of occasions when a present needs to be thought up and brought, to a women buying for a man, can just seem endless. This is purely because of one small but terrifying fact.. Men are hard to buy for! In fact, they're so hard to buy that I often resist the urge to march myself up to a cash point, withdraw x amount of monies (from our joint bank account may I add), lovingly place said money inside of a 'To my Dearest Husband' occasion card and sit back with my feet up, safe in the knowledge that that right there is a job done well and that now it is my dearest but oh-so-hard-to-buy-for Husband that has the painstakingly difficult task of having to buy something for himself.

But no, as a good wife, I do resist that urge (as simple as that would make life for me). I'm not sure my Husband would really appreciate being given what is already half of his own money as a gift.

So, as girlfriends, fiancees, partners, wives etc etc, do we like to get something that's sure to put a huge smile on the man in our lives face? Of course we do, and so, for all of us who do know a hard to buy for man, I bring you this.. My guide to 'What to get HIM for his Birthday (& other special occasions)..' Hope it helps. Oh and you can thank me later! ;)

1. To begin with, we should start with a safe bet, a bit of smelly. What man doesn't like a good bit of aftershave?! This is The Bluebeards Revenge RRP £19.99 and it is one of those that just smells completely refreshingly gorgeous and for the men that it matters to, the bottle is visually striking too. So  an all round great little buy. The brand also do some lovely little gift sets and quite a lot more so it's definitely worth having a little look over at their website if your mans a lover of his fragrances.

2. For the sporting man, there is Aquaviz and what these are are masks for prescription glasses and contact lens wearers who want to fully experience water based recreational activities. They sell swim and snorkel masks that come with a ‘snap in’ lens which gets customised to the exact prescription of the wearer so they can see clearly underwater. Pretty cool, huh? Oh and the interchangeable lens can also be used in their ski masks too! Prices start from just £39.95 for those.

3. One for techies, the iPad lovers. How about an iPad keyboard for your man that can be personalised.  Any photo you wish on the reverse side of this, I have to say, pretty damn good (in the sense that it is so easy to use) keyboard, which also acts as a bit of a case for the iPad. It is from Photobox and is priced at £64.99 but I've seen it go for less with the great deals that Photobox often run on their website.  Features to note are;- it connects wirelessly via bluetooth, attaches magnetically to the iPad when not in use, has up to 100 hours of use with one full charge and has a scratch and chip resistant coating. Bottom line: I love it. And though, it's not currently in stock, it's well worth waiting for in my opinion.

4. This is the Jam Party - Wireless Boom Box, a pretty amazing gift for those that love their music. It can be brought from Amazon currently for £54.99 and is perfect for delivering a big quality sound with the bonus of total portability. You can connect wirelessly via any bluetooth enabled devices with it or if preferred connect plug in with the AC adaptor. The rechargeable batteries last for 12 hours and it can be brought in a variety of different colours. The sound on this is good, the bass is good, the price for what you get is good.. I really can't fault it, I think it makes a fantastic gift ..Hubby loves his!

5. On the subject of music, these are the amazing Yurbuds RRP £50. Perfect for the sporting man as they are water and sweat resistant with a shape that is designed to contour the human ear so that that they don't easily fall out but remain comfortable. They come in all different colours and the Hubby tells me that the sound quality on these is brilliant. These, you can't really go wrong with!

5. The Heston Blumenthal Precision- Dual Platform Precision Scale, RRP £49.99 are a great choice for the budding chefs, (my Hubby also uses his for his business when posting items out). He was pretty excited by these.. who knew that a set of scales could cause so much excitement, but they did, it's a man thing, or so I tell myself. The LCD display is pretty cool, the stainless steel looks modern in any kitchen, it has two scales one up to 10kg and the other 200g and it comes in a rather sleek storage case that was quite impressive to be honest. They're in stock over at Amazon and definitely worth a look

6. I'm going to end with something that you just can't go wrong with.. food. If you're really stuck for ideas, then what's better than a voucher for a takeaway ordering website that allows you to find restaurants that are local to you and that do takeaways and then simply have the food delivered to your door in just a few clicks. If you've never heard of the website that I'm talking about before, then take a look for yourself.. http://hungryhouse.co.uk because when all hope of a great gift appears to be lost, there's always the gift of food!

It's been 11 Years..

It's been 11 years and my heart is still bursting, my smile is still beaming and my life is still full.

My god, you'll never know. You'll never know how deep my love for you is, you'll never what you have done for me, you'll never know how very proud of you I am for all that you do. You'll never know just how much I owe you everything. How without you, life would have been so different.

With every year that passes, I can't believe my luck. How did I ever get so lucky to be married to you?

I love you.

Allergic to Summer?

cat allergy, summer allergy, black and white cat, cat in a sink, pet allergy, allergy, cat sores, cat hair loss

Every year, without fail, in August, the scabs re appear, the excessive licking begins, the blood splatters appear and the tufts of pulled out hair scatter the house. Charlie, my male cat, is allergic to summer.

We've never known any different, ever since we adopted him from the RSPCA years ago, it has occurred. It'll last 3 or so months and then just as if it didn't exist, bam! it's gone.

So, is he really allergic to summer? The truth is, we don't know and neither does the vet. We take him every year for an anti inflammatory injection, which we're never sure if it really helps, hoping that the sores and the bald patches that reveal red raw skin underneath will heal. It truly is horrible to watch him go through it every year, knowing that there's really not a great deal that we can do to help.

Today we'll take him again, paying the excessive and unnecessary cost that is the vet who will charge us £40 to tell us he doesn't know quite why it's happening to him (again) and then charge us on top of that for the injection (which is all we really want). Not that I resent paying for my cat, as a pet owner that is my responsibility, but seriously do the vets need to charge so much? Especially so, when they know they can't really help. It's a little excessive I feel.

But besides from my feelings towards veterinary costs, here's hoping that one year Charlie the cat wont have to battle through his unknown allergies!

Do your pets have any seasonal allergies?

Is the Jumperoo as Good as the Hype Suggests?

In a word: yes.

Whilst I was pregnant and continuously searching for great baby products, I kept on coming across the word 'Jumperoo'. A quick Google searched revealed a brightly coloured, all singing all dancing bouncing gym that appeared to be at the top of every Mums' baby wish list! So off it went, to the top of my very own for my baby-to-be, that would once be old enough to kick down on his little legs and bounce around grabbing the hanging characters and laughing and smiling surrounded by music and lights and toys, so many toys!

Ethans' Jumperoo arrived last week and we put it together Sunday morning for him, I think I may have been the most excited Mum in the world. There were no tools needed to put it together - so totally 'Alex' friendly. Once together, in he went, at first a little unsure but after a few minutes, pure excitement crossed his face as he was spoilt for choice with all of the different activities, the toys, the lights and the music.

Yes, it takes up a bit of room, but what great baby toys don't? That's half the fun! The Jumperoo is fantastic and fully worth it's brilliant reputation! But that's only to be expected with Fisher Price, who always deliver!

Autumn at Buttermere Lake

Buttermere Lake in the Lake District is just beyond anything I've ever seen and is probably one of the most beautiful gems that Cumbria has to offer with breath-taking views to be taken in from all angles. We headed down there today to just 'be' and it was so peaceful and refreshing (quite literally, the wind went all out!). We took Ethan along in a back caddy which is from Chicco as the terrain was too rough for our pram. It was the perfect way to 'carry him', we'd tried the more common carriers that can be worn on the front but this one was much sturdier and ideal for a walk like this one.

I am loving being here in the Lakes, I really cannot express how beautiful it really is..
